چکیده

This paper presents a visual architecture able to identify salient regions in a visual scene and to use them to focus on interesting locations. It is inspired by the ability of natural vision systems to perform a differential processing of spatial frequencies both in time and space and to focus their attention on a very local part of the visual scene. The present paper analyzes how this differential processing of spatial frequencies is able to provide an artificial system with the information required to perform an exploration of its visual world based on a center-surround distinction of the external scene. It shows how the salient locations can be gathered on the basis of their similarities to form a high level representation of the visual scene.

Feature Extraction of Visual Evoked Potentials Using Wavelet Transform and Singular Value Decomposition

Introduction: Brain visual evoked potential (VEP) signals are commonly known to be accompanied by high levels of background noise typically from the spontaneous background brain activity of electroencephalography (EEG) signals. Material and Methods: A model based on dyadic filter bank, discrete wavelet transform (DWT), and singular value decomposition (SVD) was developed to analyze the raw data...

Towards a Real-time Framework for Visual Monitoring Tasks

This work describes an active vision framework that is able to perform visual monitoring tasks involving attention control and pattern categorization behaviors. We use an articulated stereo vision platform and image processing device, which provides abstracted information about the environment. As a practical result of this work, the system can select a region of interest in its environment, pe...

Integrating Attention and Categorization Behaviors in Robotics

This work presents an active vision system for control tasks involving attention and pattern categorization based on visual sensory information. The system is currently implemented in a robot consisting of an articulated stereo-head with four degrees of freedom (pan, tilt, left and right verge). As a practical result, the robot is able to analyze all regions of its environment, selected accordi...

A Fall Detection System based on the Type II Fuzzy Logic and Multi-Objective PSO Algorithm

The Elderly health is an important and noticeable issue; since these people are priceless resources of experience in the society. Elderly adults are more likely to be severely injured or to die following falls. Hence, fast detection of such incidents may even lead to saving the life of the injured person. Several techniques have been proposed lately for the fall detection of people, mostly cate...

Robot Motion Vision Pait I: Theory

A direct method called fixation is introduced for solving the general motion vision problem, arbitrary motion relative to an arbitrary environment. This method results in a linear constraint equation which explicitly expresses the rotational velocity in terms of the translational velocity. The combination of this constraint equation with the Brightness-Change Constraint Equation solves the gene...
